Longing
by
U (Rick) Woelke
Dawn's grey, jealous winter light
Breaks my slumber's soft embrace.
Fleeting dreams, soon to escape
Still linger with a fading face.I beg of you, Oh, Morpheus,
Let me relive that ecstasy
When you bestowed the gift of flight,
And I defied earth's gravity. When weightless I took to the air
Soared high o'er land and sea,
And in this most delicious dream
I knew that I was really free.Oh, let me rise just one more time
Above all grief and war and pain,
Before dawn's light will claim my gift,
And I'll be earthbound once again. In vain I try to find the magic
Which unlocks the chest of dreams,
But the reality of thought
Deprives me of the means. My bladder sends an urgent message:
"Request denied for more delay,"
Warm feet are touching the cold floor,
With some regret I face the day.
