Peace on Earth

"Excellent!" said God. "Everything I created is good, except man. Why is that?

"I made him master of the earth, and did he mess it up! I tried to teach him a few decent rules when I gave him ten commandments. That didn't work. I warned him when I sent the flood, but he multiplied again and didn't learn his lesson.

"Most of all, I detest his need to fight and it's become worse. He learned to drop destruction from above. There was Dresden, there were Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And this is not the end.

"Take the attack on America where thousands died in minutes. Sorrow gave way to hatred. 'Revenge' cried my children. Films glorifying war became popular. Flags waved and suddenly men in uniform marched off to fight. Heroes all, trained to kill their brothers and sisters.

"'The military cannot do without more cash,' is the cry. So scientists develop more lethal weapons to murder the innocent. Man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn. "I sent them my son and soon they will celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace. How will they do that?"

We have inhabited the earth for thousands of years. And we still don't get it right!
