The Pine Tree

by

Christa Froese

Gnarled and twisted
With its arms stretched out
Towards a distant shore
Waves lashing against
The ancient rock below
Beaten and shaped like a bonsai
By an incessant west wind
Its defiance and vulnerability
Captured by a painter's brush
Has made it immortal
It stands like a lone sentinel
A beautiful image
in the Canadian landscape
