Questions and Answers
I have been diagnosed with diverticulitus and am on a regimen of Zantac and Metamusil. The specialist also told me not to eat nuts, seeds, nor popcorn. As I am in an HMO, I cannot question the specalist. My GP just says that it is important to follow the specalist's instructions. How important is it and why?
You're fortunate that your condition is stabilised/controlled with Zantac (decreases gastric secretions) and Metamucil (a bulk-forming laxative) - in this situation, the state of the bowel can so easily deteriorate with surgery a likely outcome - nuts and seeds, and presumably also popcorn, are poorly digested as we normally consume them so that physical contact with with your bowel lesions could result in a tissue insult and flare up as a likely consequence - in your position I'd be inclined to follow the specialist's instructions.
