Q

What is a good diet for someone with diverticulitus?

A

... I'm no physician, but I've done some reading on the matter ... firstly stay clear of those items which your doctor likely will have told you to avoid ... secondly help your large intestine to do its job by using a high fibre diet. Fibre is important in our diet - it provides the bulk that helps the large intestine carry away body waste and keeps the stools soft. High fibre foods are unrefined cereals and cereal products such as brown rice and whole grain bread, fruit and vegetables, and beans and other legumes. Wheat bran has been used as a supplement. It will take a while to increase your intake to amounts that will benefit; you may also feel bloated at first or a feeling of fullness that won't go away - never fear, it will pass.
