Questions and Answers

Q

I should have the offending section removed. What are the results after removal of parts of the decending colon? I am very active, jog, lift weights. Why can't I try other remedies?, I am 53 and otherwise in perfect health. I am using bulk in the form of bran, but I have had a recent attack and have passed a little blood in the stool. That is when the Dr recommended the surgery, he said it will get worse and than there could be a emergency. I have been looking the "web" for a answer, but as of yet, no luck.

Perhaps there are "specialists" in diverticulitus or a clinc the specializes in same?

My mother refused surgery 10 years ago and is now 89, she controls it with diet and occasional antibiotics.

I read one of your articles about the person who uses Zantac to Help. Are there other answers? I thank you in advance for the answers and advice.

I'm no surgeon, but understand that simple, uncomplicated resection of a portion of the descending colon is readily tolerated (check on endoscopic surgery) and results in full recovery - check with your physician/surgeon ... it is well established that morbidity and mortality, and extended hospitalization can be reduced by early surgery before a serious complication develops.

Try - www.yahoo.com with a search for diverticulitis for lots of information.
