I have depression and unfortunatley am unable to take any antidepression drugs. My Dr has me on Clonazepam 2mg and up to 2mg of apo-alpraz per day. In surfing the net I have noticed it mentioned a few times that you should definitely not drink alcohol while on Clonazepam. What are the side effects of doing this? I appreciate the help.
Both the drugs you mention are benzodiazepines, the one most people will recognise is diazepam or 'Valium".
The reason for not consuming alcohol while on these drugs is that since their common effect is to depress the central nervous system, they will potentiate the effects of other CNS depressants such as barbiturates and ethanol. The result of the combination would be to increase the effect of, say ethanol, much above that usually experienced. It is wise, then, to stay off the sauce!
