Questions and Answers

Q

I am 64 years of age and for the past year and a half have had a white covering on the top of my tongue. I say covering as opposed to coating because it does not brush or scrape off. My dentist and several doctors have failed to put a name to the condition. There was treatment with troches to no avail. My otolarynologist is of the opinion that there is no cure but he thinks the conditon might be linked to a deficiency of vitamins E and C and the mineral zinc --- I have taken a daily multi- vitamin for years and have loaded up on additional E and C but the condition persists. Lately there has been a burning sensation on my tongue and frequent feeling of dryness.

Any ideas?

Hi ... sorry to hear of your problem. The only thing that springs to mind is oral candidiasis (thrush) ... but that can be scraped off. It's pretty certain that your otolarynologist will have excluded this.

Sorry, can't be of any help.

Best wishes.
