Q

I am asthmatic and also have a hypersensitivity to NSAI drugs. Why then, does my allergist prescribe Tilade, which is an anti-inflammatory, non-steroidial drug?

A

Hi Micheal ... sorry to hear of your problems.

Your allergist knows what he/she is doing. Tilade (nedocromil sodium) is used in the prophylactic treatment of mild/moderate asthma and not for control of acute bronchospasm. Its predecessor cromolyn sodium (Intal) has been used sucessfully since the 70's. Neither have any analgesic or anti-inflammatory activity and do not demonstrate cross-hypersensitivity such as you fear.

Best wishes.
