Please advise me as to a possible treatment for an incredible distention (abdominal) since taking Prednisone.The dosage is minimal (1 wk. of 30 mg q.d.--1wk. of 20 q.d. then 10mg. 2dys.)I was started on this 3 1/2 mo. ago but only needed it for initially 2wks.
The asthma or COPD? did well 'til Jan 1st, when the Dr. proceeded with the 30 , 20, 10. again. I've been off it one week, but my abdomen has increased to the size of full term pregnancy. This did not just begin, it's just increased. Oct.1 , I weigh107--in six weeks--115--in three mos. 124. There must be an answer or some relief.
To be small all my life, then find I have to waddle.....I see no edema anywhere else, it's all torso-- chest to supra-pupic. Checked by Dr. last week, who is both an Internist and Endocrinologist; he says Prednisone. But I tell you, this is so uncomfortable--even have trouble sitting in car--there's no room for the tummy, aside from having to wear draw-string pants.Also the pressure on the lungs and heart is bound to cause dyspnea.
Am also taking Adalat C 60mg. qd. Azmacort-4 puffs BID, Albuteral 2 puffs TID and PRN.
Sorry about the lengthly letter, but I think God has even given up on
such an unimportant calamity.

Hi Lorraine ... sorry to hear about your problem.
When such intolerable side-effects such as these (confirmed due to prednisone by your physician) occur, it's time to look a. whether this drug should be continued at all, or b. if considered necessary, some modification in dosage should be considered. Inhalation may give required control with much lesser chance of side-effects.
I'm sorry, I can't help with your current problem - it sounds like a
job for your endocrinologist physician. If he/she is no help, you may
consider a second opinion.
