Q

Hytrin vs Saw Palmetto

I am currenty on 10mg daily of Hytrin for BPH. I had been taking 5mg for about 14 months until just recently when typical symptoms worsened. 10 Mg seems to have made SUBSTANTIAL improvements!

I would like to try using Saw Palmetto as a substitute for Hytrin. Can I use them both? Or, could this cause problems.

Use of Hytrin basically stops 99% of semen upon ejaculation. Also, I am concerned about what other long-term problems may be associated with Hytrin. Of course, at least for now, it does work.

Any information on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Allen ... glad to hear your problem is under control.

Saw Palmetto has been used by some with some success, but I'm not aware of any properly controlled trial to demonstrate it clinical usefulness. Since you're achieving good response with 10 mg. (standard dose) of Hytrin (terazosin) without serious side-effects, it would seem reasonable to continue until you have good reason to reconsider.

So far there have been no long-term problems with terazisin. Don't use Saw Palmetto at the same time as your current medication - it's impossible to tell what the outcome would be.
Best wishes.
