Re: ambien
What are the side effects of ambien? What is the danger of taking it over a period of time?
Thanks

A

Hi Carrie.
There are many for Ambien (zolpidem). Commonest are drowsiness, dizziness, drugged feeling, also diarrhea. There may also be difficulty in co-ordination. A single dose of 10 mg. should be taken only immediately before going to bed - an overall effect is to impair mental alertness. Alcohol should be avoided.

In general, sleep medications should, in most cases,be used only for a short period of time, such as 1 or 2 days and generally no longer than 1 to 2 weeks. If sleep problems persist, see your physician.
Best wishes.
