Q
I am 51 years old and have been taking antidepressants off and on for about eight years. I've tried Anafranil, Paxil, Effexor, Imipramine, and Remeron. All meds control depression/anxiety/phobias for me. However, the side effects always make me give up. I'm now on imipramine and I have jaw pain and hot flashes/sweating. I did try hormones for awhile but the hot flashes/sweating continued. The sweats are worse than the jaw pain. I hate to go off this medication and start a new one. Is there any solution? Could these side effects go away in time?

... sorry to hear of your ploblems ... unfortunately, side-effects ars a fact of life with the tri-cyclic antidepressants, including imipramine ... tolerance can develop to some of the wide spectrum of such effects, but not, I believe, to your problems ... sweating, by the way is quite a common side-effect ... a possible answer would be reduction in dosage, quite a wide range is used and it may be that you can achieve the desired effect at some lower dosage than you use now.
By the way, the use of aspirin and some other drugs will increase both the desired and undesired effects of imipramine.
Best wishes.
